Podcasts are having their moment in the sun these days. The great side effect of this is that mental health is one of the major topics covered across the thousands of podcasts available on major platforms. Here are some of the podcasts that speak to mental health we’re loving at the moment.
Mel Robbins Podcast
One of our favourite mental health podcasts we often talk about in our sessions with clients is the Mel Robbins podcast. Specifically, we love the Let Them Theory. The radical (or not) idea that we cannot control people’s actions or emotions. Instead of trying to control how people perceive us or react to us, we “let them.” This theory is especially helpful for those dealing with different attachment styles in a relationship. We tend to focus on trying not to disappoint our partners or have them disappoint us, that we engage in tactics to control their behaviours. The Let Them Theory is a simple, but effective way to learn how to accept the anxiety of the unknown and accept that we are not in control.
the Diary of a ceo
Another podcast that covers mental health topics is The Diary of a CEO. This podcast is particularly interesting because every episode is radically different. Different mental health experts may have advice that is radically different from the previous. This can be so helpful as not every human is programmed the same way. So, some opinions and advice may connect with you more so than others. One episode we recommend in particular is with neuroscientist Dr. Daniel Amen who explores the neurological aspects of psychology and offers ideas and suggestions that can help us physically “rewire” our brains. One of his recommendations we talk about often is Positivity Bias Training. This approach aims to rewire our brains to consider the positive rather than immediately defaulting to negative thinking.
Navigating NArcissism with Dr. Ramani
Narcissism has become a bit of a buzzword in podcasts that talk about mental health in recent years. Part of the reason we’re having conversations about narcissism these days is thanks to the work of Dr. Ramani. Her podcast focused on this important area has enlightened millions of this toxic and exhausting pattern that is present in many relationships. Her podcast explores ways to identify whether you’re in a narcissistic relationship and how to navigate it safely, so you can protect your mental health.
HEalthygamerGG
The HealthyGamerGG Podcast offers a fantastic glimpse into men’s mental health issues, the effects technology has on our brains, navigating modern dating, and much more. Dr. K’s podcast speaks to young people in a way where other podcasts fail. His episodes address the issues that Millenials, Gen Z, and Gen Alpha are facing in their day-to-day technology filled lives and offers insights and ideas to better navigate technology, trends, and modern culture in relation to our mental health.
Let’s talk about it in session
At Kaizen Therapy, we are big on finding ways to engage in self-care between sessions. Podcasts are just one way you can engage with your mental health. Don’t be afraid to talk about what you’ve read or listened to online with your therapist. As great as these podcasts are, there is misinformation out there. So, let’s talk about these subjects in session so we can explore how these podcasts, videos, self-help books relate to you and your mental health.
